Parliamentary Innovation

Leadership For Innovation – Visualizing The Invisible:

Innovation in parliamentary technology

This project investigates how legislative bodies foster leadership in technology innovation. The goal is to understand how technology can better support the legislative process, with a specific focus on new data in digital forms.  Fieldwork will be conducted in legislatures and parliaments that have shown leadership in technology innovation. These institutions have adopted technology that incorporates advanced data structures, such as the extended mark-up language, XML.

The study will investigate the balance between the risk-adverse culture of government and the failure-driven culture of technology.  The broader impact of the project is a consideration of how technology is redefining participatory democracy. Innovation in parliamentary technology introduces new insights into government transparency and into the legislative process.

This project is generously supported by a grant from the Peter Pribilla-Stiftung.
